VIKINGO
This is a Viking style axe I forged under the tutelage of Jim Austin in Oakland. Ever the craftsmen, Jim's design honors the original forge welding technique of the Vikings as opposed to taking a shortcut and drifting the hole to make the eye. True to tradition, the haft (handle) fits into a tapered hole made with a mandrel instead of using a metal or wooden wedge driven in from the top. Vikingo was a present for my dear friend, Colonel Sebastian Miller, of the British Armed Forces.
